Frequently asked questions

Organized answers about starting a business, commercial registration, amendments and Altujar services.

Using Altujar

How do I request a service?

Open Services, choose the relevant category and service, complete the form and attach the requested documents. Your request will show the next step.

What is the difference between a category and a service?

A category groups related transactions, such as commercial registration formation. A service is the specific transaction you select, such as forming a sole establishment or a W.L.L.

Is Altujar the government Sijilat portal?

No. Altujar helps prepare and follow up transactions and links to the official Sijilat portal. Government authorities decide on registration, licences and approvals.

Can I submit a request without an account?

Some services accept guest requests. Keep the tracking code shown after submission, or create an account to manage requests in one place.

How can I track my request?

Sign in and open My requests, or use the tracking code for a guest request. The status shows whether we need information or action from you.

When does work begin and how are fees shown?

The platform shows an approved price when available. For custom-priced services, the team reviews your details and sends a quote before payment and execution. Any government fees depend on the authority’s requirements.

Can I ask for help before choosing a service?

Yes. Use Contact us or the phone number in the footer, and tell us what transaction you need and its current stage.

Starting a business and commercial registration

What is the first step to starting a business in Bahrain?

Choose your activity and legal form, then prepare the owners’, managers’ and address details and supporting documents. Registration and licensing follow the relevant government procedures; we can help prepare and follow up the request.

What is a commercial registration (CR)?

It is the official record of an establishment with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Its details, activities and licensing status appear on the government Sijilat portal.

What is the difference between a CR and an activity licence?

A CR records the establishment. Some activities require additional licences or approvals before they may be carried out. Do not start an activity before securing its required permissions.

Can a CR be issued before an activity licence?

Some cases allow registration before all activity licences are complete. This does not authorize the licensed activity; check the conditions and request status in Sijilat.

Which legal form suits my business?

It depends on the number of owners, liability, ownership and activity. Our formation services show the available forms, and we can review your choice before submission.

Do formation rules vary by owners’ nationality?

Ownership eligibility and approvals can vary by activity, legal form and nationality. We review the case with you; the competent authority makes the final decision.

Is there a minimum capital for every business?

No single amount applies to every legal form and activity. We check the requirements for your chosen form and activity before preparing the transaction.

What is a business activity and how do I choose one?

The activity describes what the business will do and affects the approvals needed. Choose one matching your actual work and check its conditions in Sijilat’s activity directory.

Are all activities open to every investor?

No. Some activities have ownership restrictions, special approvals or additional licensing authorities. The final requirements appear when the activity is reviewed in Sijilat.

How do I choose a trade name?

Suggest a name that fits the activity and complies with official naming rules. The authority decides whether it is available and acceptable.

What information is usually needed to form a CR?

Usually the parties’ details, legal form, activities, proposed name, address and relevant documents or authorizations. The exact list depends on the selected service.

How long does formation take and what does it cost?

Time and cost vary with the legal form, activities, approvals and government fees. We provide a case-specific estimate after reviewing your request, without promising a fixed outcome.

Documents and authorization

Do I need a business address?

The type of address and proof required depend on the legal form and activity. We explain the document for your request; the authority decides whether the address qualifies.

Can an address be shared by more than one CR?

This depends on the premises, activities and authority requirements. Check the particular case before relying on a shared address.

Can someone act on my behalf?

Yes, with authorization appropriate to the request and applicant’s capacity. We identify the supporting authorization before submission.

What is eKey?

It is a government identity service for accessing online services in Bahrain. Follow official instructions if your transaction requires it, and never share your login details or verification codes.

Must foreign documents be authenticated?

Foreign documents may need authentication, legalization or translation depending on their origin, type and transaction. We review the required list with you.

Do documents need translation?

That depends on the document language and the authority’s requirements. We will tell you if an approved translation is needed before upload.

When must formation documents be notarized?

The step depends on the legal form and document type. We explain the timing and documents after the intended entity is identified.

How do I protect my documents?

Upload files only through the relevant request form. Never share passwords or one-time codes, and provide only the documents and information needed for the transaction.

Amendments, renewals and branches

How do I amend an existing CR?

Choose the commercial registration amendments service and specify the change, such as name, address, activity or partners. We review the required documents and approvals.

Who can request a CR amendment?

The applicant must be a registered related party or suitably authorized under Sijilat and authority requirements. We will ask for proof of status or authorization.

Can I change the trade name or address?

Yes, through the appropriate amendment and authority approval. Do not use the new details for official transactions until the amendment is approved.

Can I add an activity to my CR?

You may apply if you meet the activity’s conditions and approvals. Submitting the amendment alone does not permit you to carry out an activity requiring a licence.

How do I add a branch?

Choose the branch service and provide the premises, activity and supporting documents. A separate licence or approval may be required.

Can partners or shareholdings be changed?

There are amendment procedures for partners and shares. Partner resolutions, amended formation documents and notarization may be needed, depending on the company and change.

When should I renew my CR?

Check the expiry date in your record and apply before it expires, resolving any outstanding fees, approvals or requirements shown in Sijilat.

Can I renew before the expiry date?

Sijilat may allow early renewal within its specified period. Check the current CR status and available renewal option when applying.

What if my CR expires?

Expiry may affect renewal, trading or other transactions and may trigger further procedures. Review the CR status and official requirements promptly.

Can a deleted or suspended CR be reactivated?

That depends on the reason and the authority’s decision. We review the case to identify whether reactivation, violation removal or a new registration is available.

Violations and compliance

How do I request removal of a business violation?

Choose violation removal and attach the notice and evidence that the cause was corrected. We review the route and supporting documents before submitting to the authority.

Can I resume business as soon as I submit a removal request?

No. Correct the cause and await the authority’s decision. A submitted request alone does not lift a suspension.

What if an activity was carried out without a licence?

Stop the unlicensed activity, check whether it can be added and approved, then address the violation under the authority’s instructions.

What if my storefront sign does not match my CR?

Check the registered details and sign, then correct the appropriate one. The authority may ask for a photograph or proof of correction.

Who is an ultimate beneficial owner (UBO)?

A natural person who ultimately owns or controls an entity under the official definitions. Depending on the entity, disclosure and updates may be required in Sijilat.

Must UBO details be updated when they change?

Check the current Sijilat disclosure requirements when ownership or control changes. We can help prepare the update without assuming one deadline applies to every case.

Does my company need to file financial statements?

This depends on the company type and current regulatory requirements. We can help arrange the transaction; authorized professionals must prepare and approve the report.

Do some activities have anti-money-laundering duties?

Yes. Certain activities have additional obligations. Check the regulator and your activity’s requirements, and seek specialist advice if their application is unclear.

Can I object to a violation or administrative decision?

An objection or appeal may be available depending on the decision and its deadlines. Send us the notice promptly so we can identify the relevant route and documents.
